Last week the left-leaning Social Science Quarterly released an inane "study" that purported to demonstrate a correlation between the presence of the number of Wal-Mart stores and the number of "hate groups" in any given county in the US.
The "study" compared 2007 SPLC "hate group" numbers with 1998 Wal-Mart numbers!
Not only are the SPLC numbers flawed from the get-go (there's no legal definition for "hate group," which is why even the FBI does not, cannot, designate "hate groups."), but there were 1,000 more Wal-Mart stores in 2007 than in 1998... a 40% increase.
If there is a correlation, why would you ignore a thousand more opportunities to prove your case?
As long as you're cherry picking your data to meet your predetermined outcomes why not compare the SPLC's spurious 2007 numbers with the number of 1907 blacksmith shops and correlate the connection between "hate groups" and horses?
The final conclusion of the "study" is now that the researchers have identified the correlation it would behoove Wal-Mart to contribute money to a number of organizations the social scientists have deemed worthy in the fight against "hate."
Unfortunately, the SSQ article was picked up by the D HS Newswire web site and regurgitated as fact, and this is the real danger of the SPLC and other self-designated "civil rights" groups with multimillion dollar propaganda departments.
